Cannavaro joins Real Madrid and passes medical test

He is a defender but his arrival is impressive and looks like the answer to all the demands in Madrid. Fabio Cannavaro just signed for Real Madrid and passed a medical exam on Monday.

Indeed, Italy's World Cup-winning captain is due to be introduced at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday, the club announced on its website.

"I want to express that playing for Real Madrid is a dream come true. I'm going to work hard to win a championship," said Cannavaro. "I feel that it is very gratifying to join such a renowned club after winning the World Cup."

We must remember that the 32-year-old is just one of many Juventus players leaving after the club was demoted to Serie B in the Italian match-fixing scandal.

What's more, on Friday, FC Barcelona signed defenders Gianluca Zambrotta and Lilian Thuram from Juventus.

Madrid brand new coach Fabio Capello left Juventus earlier this month and indicated he wanted to sign Cannavaro and Brazil midfielder Emerson.

Madrid president Ramon Calderon recently announced four new players would be presented this week. The club has expressed interest in Emerson, Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and AC Milan midfielder Kaka.
